数年前、長野を旅した際に真田家ゆかりの城、上田城に立ち寄りました。
その門の脇には巨大な石垣、「真田石」があります。
高さ2.5メ一トル、幅３メ一トルと人丈以上あり、その存在感には圧倒されます。
この城は、1583年幸村の父、真田昌幸によって建造され、その後、1622年兄の信幸が松代へ移る際に父の形見として、この石だけは持っていこうとしたのですが、全く動かすことは出来なかったという逸話があります。
これを眺めているとその大きさに圧倒されますが、同時に回りの石とのバランス良さや構造的な美しさに気づくことになります。
力を無理なく地面に流そうとする石の配置。
この石はまさに真田家の強い結束と政治的、戦略的なバランス感覚を象徴したものなんでしょう。
私はこの石を眺めている時に、ふと、上を見上げると、晴れてる訳でもなく、曇ってる訳でもなく、何とも言えないような秋の空が広がっていました。
全く揺るぎない「意志」を持っているこの石垣と、秋空のように移ろいやすい自分の心。
その対比の意味をこめて、この絵を描きました。

No.15 It doesn’t move, the Sanada stone, and autumn sky.
When I traveled to Nagano several years ago, I stopped by Ueda Castle, a castle associated with the Sanada family.
Beside the gate, there is a huge stone wall, “Sanada Stone”.
It is more than a person’s height and width 2.5 meters and 3 meters, and its presence is overwhelming.
The castle was built in 1583 by Masayuki Sanada, father of Yukimura.
Later, when Yukimura’s brother Nobuyuki moved to Matsushiro in 1622, he kept only this stone as a memento of his father.
There is an anecdote that he tried to move it, but he could not move it at all.
As I look at it, I am overwhelmed by its size, but at the same time I notice its structural beauty and balance with the surrounding stones.
It is the placement of the stone that tries to make the power flow to the ground without force.
This stone is a symbol of the strong unity and political and strategic balance of the Sanada family.
As I was looking at this stone, I suddenly looked up that it wasn’t sunny, it wasn’t cloudy, it was just an indescribable autumn sky.
The stone wall, which has an unwavering “will”, and one’s heart that is easy to change like the autumn sky.
I drew this picture with the meaning of the contrast.
